Power Island…

Kids out of school so took an overnight sea kayak adventure to Power Island in Grand Traverse Bay.  Took off from Bowers Harbor about 8:30 pm and arrived around sunset at 9:30.  There are only 5 sites on the island with only one other couple there with their boats.  Weather was perfect with glass-like water.

  1. I want to hear more about that. It sounds like a great trip that I may want to try when I am up there. Any petoskeys?

    • Hi Doug, I’ve gone 3 or 4 times now. I’ve mostly done it from the Leelanau side which is about 4 miles of open water. Having the kids along and with the water chilly this time of year, I decided to drive the extra miles to Old Mission. There is only about a mile of open water going that way. One downside of this trip is the cost……Since Grand Traverse County owns and operates the park, the cost to non county residents is $31/night! It seems a bit much for a tent site. Also, because there are only 5 sites, you need to make a reservation most of the time during the busy season. Still, to have an opportunity like this so close to home is nice.

  2. Sorry, didn’t scope out the Petoskey potential!
